Who’s behind Clippy
getclippy.co and Clippy Mc Clipface are operated by GetClippy LLC, a New York limited liability company.
Clippy is built and run by one person, Matt. There’s no big team behind the curtain. It’s one person and a cobalt paperclip who think checking for a coupon before you pay should be a normal part of shopping with an AI assistant.
Clippy may be a paperclip, but its bills are real. The API your assistant talks to, the coupon database it checks and the servers that keep it online all cost real money to run. Clippy doesn’t charge you to use it. Instead, when you follow some Clippy links and make a purchase at the store, the store may pay Clippy a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That’s what keeps Clippy free to use.
How affiliate links work
Clippy gets coupon and promotional information from affiliate programs that have approved it. Today that information comes from affiliate programs Clippy has joined, including through its publisher relationships with CJ Affiliate, Impact, Awin and Admitad, and from direct brand programs. Everything on this page applies to direct brand programs too.
Some of the shopping links Clippy returns contain tracking information. If you follow one and complete a qualifying purchase, the retailer or affiliate network may attribute that purchase to Clippy and pay Clippy a commission.
What a commission can and can’t change
Your assistant compares retailers on the things that matter to you: product fit, final delivered price after discounts, delivery timing, returns and seller reliability. When retailers are materially comparable on all of those, Clippy’s instructions allow a supported retailer to be presented first.
That’s the whole of it. Affiliate eligibility is a tie-breaker, not a reason to hide or downgrade a meaningfully better option. When another retailer offers better value or lower risk, agents are instructed to recommend that retailer, even if Clippy earns nothing there.
These are rules your assistant is told to follow, and how closely they’re followed depends on your assistant. They’re published in Clippy’s instructions so anyone can check them.
Links you arrived through
If you reached a store through a creator’s affiliate link, or anyone else’s, Clippy’s instructions tell your assistant to keep that link. It should never replace, override or swap it for a Clippy link. In that case Clippy only checks for coupon codes. Whoever sent you there should get the credit.
What Clippy can’t promise
- Not every link is tracked or earns a commission.
- A coupon code on its own may not earn Clippy anything.
- Commissions depend on eligibility, attribution, exclusions, returns and the retailer’s or network’s final validation.
- A retailer logo shows where you can shop. It doesn’t necessarily mean that retailer endorses Clippy.
- Coupons and savings estimates aren’t promises. The store’s checkout has the final say.
Your choice
You never have to use a tracked link. You can go to the retailer on your own or type a coupon code in yourself. Either way, Clippy doesn’t add a fee to your price, though the retailer’s prices, shipping and taxes can change on their own.
Going to the store directly also avoids the third-party tracking a tracked link can involve. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Clippy never buys anything for you, and a coupon check never approves a purchase. You and your assistant’s settings stay in charge.
